Top Foods to Relieve Arthritis Pain

If you live with arthritis, then you understand all too well the daily aches and pains that unfortunately become a part of your everyday life. While there are medications, injections, and other treatments available to help alleviate pain caused by arthritis, it’s also important to focus on your diet and lifestyle choices, as these can have a major impact on your pain.

Healthy eating can help to reduce inflammation and help manage the severity of your arthritis. By incorporating the right foods into your diet, you may be able to alleviate arthritis pain.

Fish

Fish contain omega-3s, which are not only great for your heart, but can also help to reduce joint inflammation. Ideally, you’ll want to stick with fattier fish, such as tuna, salmon, and trout, to get the highest levels of omega-3s in your diet. Unfortunately, not everybody enjoys fish. The good news is that you can still increase your omega-3 intake by taking a supplement; just be sure to speak with your doctor before you do so.

Leafy Greens and Veggies

It has also been found that cruciferous greens like broccoli, cabbage, kale, and brussel sprouts can help to slow down damage to cartilage, which is a common factor in the onset of osteoarthritis. There are so many different ways to prepare greens, such as roasting them, adding them to a stir-fry, or even eating them raw with a healthy dip.

Garlic

Did you know that garlic can also help to relieve your arthritis pain? Garlic contains a compound known as diallyl disulfide, which also helps to reduce damage to cartilage, thus helping to avoid joint friction that can lead to pain. The best part about garlic? It’s easy to add to just about any dish.

Turmeric

A key chemical in the spice turmeric is curcumin. Curcumin, or turmeric, is known for reducing inflammation and pain. It also has shown to modify your immune system response. It is easy to incorporate turmeric into your diet. The spice can be used to season everything from grains like rice to meat and fish. However, before taking a turmeric capsule, talk it over with your doctor as too much turmeric can act as a blood thinner.
